KOLKATA: The Central government’s stand that it cannot disclose all the information on black money issue came under sharp reactions from many political parties.
The Trinamool Congress on Saturday said the central government has made a “u-turn” on the black money issue which was “shocking” and vowed to oppose it both inside and outside Parliament.
“Trinammol Congress slammed BJP’s U-turn on black money (issue). (It is) shocking. Legalistic arguments about black money by Govt are a cop-out. What concrete steps has BJP taken? Setting up toothless Comm not enough,” TMC spokesperson and Rajya Sabha MP Derek O’ Brien tweeted.
“BJP Govt’s U-turn on black money shocking. Betrayal of anti-UPA corruption sentiment. Shows BJP and Cong r part of same cosy Delhi nexus. TMC will oppose this U-turn on the black money issue by the BJP. We will do all it takes,” his tweet said.
Talking to PTI, O’ Brien said, “When they were in opposition, the BJP spoke in one languaage and now after formation of its government it is speaking in another language.
Nitish takes jibe on Modi
Janata Dal (United) also made a scathing attack on the Centre for not disclosing information about black money and said the election campaign on the issue by Prime Minister Narendra Modi was based on false promises.
“Before elections, BJP on top of its voice made promises that it will bring back black money in the country…what to talk about return of the black money now they are not even disclosing names of account holders,” senior JD(U) leader and former Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar said in a facebook post.
Taking a jibe, Kumar said “If black money issue was a ‘Yogasan’ (yoga exercise) of Swami Ramdev? Was it an empty speech of Narendra Modi or thousands of crore worth ‘staple’ of BJP.”
“Whether it was an empty promise to get votes or ‘sirsasan’ (upsidedown yoga exercise) of Modi government which has gone back on its promises?” he said.
“Sari batein…jhoot ke dam par sasahan (all talks…coming to power on the basis of falsehood),” Kumar said.
The Narendra Modi government, which had promised to bring back black money stashed away by Indians in foreign banks, had on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it cannot disclose such details given by the countries with which India has Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA).
