Dr. Gurmohan Singh Walia while congratulating Sirjan said that Sounding to be a feminist by her projection of the oppression, suppression, repression, marginalization, exploitation and victimization meted out to the young female protagonist of her novel,Ibadat not only at the hands of many males but females also, Sirjan aims to highlight the cries and pains suffered by Ibadat in many forms through her determination to struggle for her rightful place and space in the family, and a dignified status in social and professional area, and her success in achieving all these through her sincere and loving mentors and friends.

Dr. Tejinder Kaur in her address said that Sirjan has convincingly floated a vision that girls are not a ‘disgrace’ for the family and society, to be discarded and snubbed, but they are an asset to be cherished and respected and to be granted equal opportunities to grow and develop their personality and shine in every walk of life.

Sirjan while speaking about her novel said that The idea of writing novel on this issue came to my mind back in 2012 when Damini Gang Rape case happened. I was so frustrated by that scenario that I wanted to make people realise the importance of women. Since I couldn’t go home to home to tell people what women is in their lives, I chose the method of conveying my thoughts through my pen. See! This thought came back in 2012 and now even 2014 is about to end but rapes! Rapes are still happening. The state of women is still miserable. She said that her character Ibadat rose up, breaking all the obstacles and barriers on her way and came out to be victorious. But she never let the emotional state of hers give up. She let her parents bless her new born baby girl and ultimately her parents realised that a girl is no less than a boy and they have every right to be successful!

Prof. Achhru Singh said that he is confident that with time and continued writing and reflection, Sirjan will definitely carve a niche for herself in the literary space of Indian writing in English.
