Patiala (21 June):- During the meeting of the five Sikh Priests at Sri Akal Takhat Sahib, Amritsar on 14th June, it was directed that all the Gurdwara must keep the sound of the speakers within their premises. The decision of the sikh priests is praise worthy and every sikh must honour it by persuading the gurdwara management committees to follow the edict.
As per Noise Pollution (Regulation and Control) Rules, 2000 the permissible noise limits during night hours (10.00 pm to 6.00 am) in residential areas is 45 dB. Hon’ble Supreme Court is ordered not to play any loud speakers or noise polluting organs during these night hours. PPCB teams conducted the measurement of noise pollution level around the various religious places namely Gurdwaras, Mandirs and Masjids in a scientific way during time period of 4.00 am to 6.00 am and found that the noise levels were two to three times higher than the prescribed limit.
Sh. K.S. Pannu, Chairman of the Board said that higher values of noise level have adverse ill-effects on the human health viz.-fatigue of the hearing or auditory sense organs, deafness, annoyance, hypertension, change of the rate of heart-beat, vertigo and cardiovascular effects etc, and also effecting the study of the students. The noise pollution has also emerged as the social evil in the society.
Sh. Pannu further said that during the meeting of the five sikh priests at Sri Akal Takhat, the edict to keep the noise emitted from the speakers within the premises of the respective Gurdwara, is laudable and is in the interest of the Punjabis & for the bright future of the students. He appealed to the Gurdwara, Mandir and Masjid managing committees and their employees to act as per their legal, religious and moral responsibilities and take effective steps keep the noise pollution within the premises of the religious places.
