CHANDIGARH, JUNE 26: Mr. Sohan Singh Thandal, Cultural Affairs Minister Punjab today expressed deep grief and sorrow over the demise of legendary sculptor Shiv Singh, who took his last breath after a brief illness here today.
In his condolence message Mr. Thandal said that Shiv Singh was one of the greatest artists, scuptors who brought art of Punjab on global landscape. He said that Shiv Singh who was born at Hoshiarpur in 1938 scaled the pinnacles of artistry portraying his aesthetical acumen in different streams of visual arts. He said that Shiv Singh was a gifted artist who practiced his artistic expertise in Painting and Designing but he was basically a Sculptor. Mr . Thandal said that recognising the contribution of Shiv Singh, the Punjab Government had accorded him state honour.
It is pertinent to mention that Shiv Singh studied at Punjab College of Arts from 1958 to 1963 first at Shimla and then at Chandigarh. He taught art at the Sainik School, Kapurthala till 1968. He retired as Professor of Arts in 1996 from Government Home Science College, Chandigarh.
