Passengers on a flight to Spain’s Mallorca held tight as their plane flew through strong winds and thunderstorms, making those onboard fear for their lives and think “this is it.” In an alarming video shared on social media, the travellers are seen screaming and crying amid heavy turbulence.
The clip was shared by 25-year-old Estela Orts, who was flying back from Alicante to Magaluf. As the plane began to violently rattle, she took out her phone to record what transpired on board. “It was the first time in my life that it has ever crossed my mind to think ‘this is it,'” she said in a story uploaded on Instagram.
She revealed that as the plane started to descend, passengers began screaming for help, and some even felt sick. However, the pilot eventually managed to stabilise the aircraft. “I couldn’t help crying. I don’t know how long that moment lasted but it felt eternal. The pilot managed to stabilize the plane – it was like a roller coaster. Nobody said anything over the loudspeaker about what was happening, even when it was stabilized,” Orts said, according to Newsweek.
Expressing gratitude to the pilot, she said that landing safely made her feel like she was “born again.” “I hope the pilot of the plane reads this. Thank you, thank you for what you did today. The minutes felt endless, but in the end, it was just a scare,” she continued.

Fierce storm rocks Spain
In the horrifying video, a passenger sitting behind Orts is seen grinning as the chaos erupts. The turbulence, according to the New York Post, was a result of a powerful storm that hit popular tourist destination Mallorca. With winds blowing over 75 mph, those on the ground ran for cover as objects flew in the air.
