Lambi, Channu village in the Lambi Assembly constituency remained tense last night after a minor girl was allegedly crushed under a bus belonging to Deep Transport, owned by SAD’s Gidderbaha constituency in charge Hardeep Singh ‘Dimpy’ Dhillon.
Angry protesters torched the bus, following which the police resorted to lathicharge and opened fire to disperse the villagers who were seeking action against bus driver.
The protesters hurled stones at the policemen, in which Lambi SHO Gurpreet Singh, head constable Paloos Singh and constable Gunpreet Singh were injured.
The police have registered two cases, one against the accused driver and another against 50-60 unidentified persons of Channu village for attacking the police team.
The police have taken the girl’s body into their possession and sent it for post-mortem. They also removed the bus from the road using a crane.
Dhillon belongs to Channu village but resides in Gidderbaha town. Indian Youth Congress chief-cum-Gidderbaha MLA Amarinder Singh ‘Raja Warring’ has demanded registration of a case of murder against the bus owner, who is also his political rival.
“A case under Section 302 of the IPC should be registered against the bus owner. Besides, the state government should cancel the permits of his transport,” said Warring.
Intelligence sources say the tension may aggravate as the Congress would try its best to target the SAD, particularly as the incident took place in the CM’s home turf.
