Australia batter Glenn Maxwell was hit on the head while trying to reverse lap a Yuzvendra Chahal delivery. The bizarre incident happened in the 13th over of the game.
India’s leg spinner Yuzvendra Chahal was bowling his second over, when Maxwell tried to target the shorter side of the boundary. Attempting a reverse lap shot, Maxwell ended up top edging the ball on the right side of his eye, and immediately looked in discomfort.
The play was stopped right away and mandatory checks were done on the batter. Once Maxwell was cleared to play, he was requested to put on a helmet, to which he obliged.
On Monday, it seemed like Australia will be able to chase down the target with ease, after a blistering opening stand between Mitchell Marsh and Aaron Finch. However, a flurry of wickets at the back end of the innings ensured that Australia would find it difficult to reach the target.
A major surprise was sprung up by Rohit Sharma in the final over of the game, when Mohammad Shami came out to bowl his first over of the game. The right arm fast bowler took three wickets in the final over of the game, defending just 11 runs, helping India clinch the game by 6 runs.
Maxwell himself 23 off 16 balls before getting out to Bhuvneshwar Kumar. The batter tried to make room and cut the ball through point, but ended up edging it back to the keeper, Dinesh Karthik.
Australia captain Aaron Finch said after the game that they were majorly in control of the game, but it went away from them in the final couple of overs.
