Amritsar, November 10: Contesting Gaini Gurbachan Singh for stating that only the Akal Takht chief was authorised to convene the Sarbat Khalsa, the Dal Khalsa asserted the Khalsa Panth during crisis can convene Sarbat Khalsa but its venue should be the supreme temporal seat of the Sikhs.
Party spokesperson Kanwar Pal Singh said when the incumbent Jathedar loses his trust and credibility, Khalsa Panth in its collective wisdom can gave a call to hold the Sikh congregation but at Akal Takht. He said Dal Khalsa along with Akali Dal (Panch Pardhani) has already asked the organizers of Nov 10 event to shift the venue and reset the date to make the event more representative and less controversial. He said Sarbat Khalsa is an historical institution in which Sikhs with divergent views, perceptions and ideology sit together, resolve their differences to address issues of common concern and chalk out joint strategy to counter enemy’s designs.
He took jibes at Gaini Gurbachan Singh for calling the Sarbat Khalsa called by various Sikh organisations on November 10 as illegal. From where does the question of legality has arisen, he asked. He said going by the history, the Jathedar was not above Khalsa Panth. “He is simply spokesperson of the community” and moreover a disgraced person like him has no right to point finger at others’ shortcomings, if any.
