Parkash Singh Badals demand for Memorandum of Commitment proves this

Chandigarh, October 29: The Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal is trying to befool people by making them believe in the industrial mirage he is showing them in this virtually the last year of the term of the present government while masking the deteriorating situation that has resulted into the shutting down of more than 20,000 industrial units in the state during the present regime.

Commenting upon the mega show that he tried to stage in the name of so called progressive Punjab summit by inviting doyens from industry and financial sectors, the State Congress President Mr Partap Singh Bajwa said, “Mr Sukhbir Badal lives in his own make believe world and his only commitment is only to self. While thousands of industrial units in Punjab have closed down during this period, it is only the Badal family that has prospered. Punjab urgently needs fresh investment in both farm and industrial sectors as the state is on the verge of collapse but it is the sincerity of the Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal and his Deputy Chief Minister son that are under a cloud going by the experience so far as the development of Punjab has never been on their agenda”. The irony of the matter is that once in a life time S. Parkash Singh Badal Chief Minister of Punjab has spoken the truth on one of these occasions requesting the Corporate honchos to sign the Memorandum of Commitment rather than signing the Memorandum of understanding.

Bajwa asked the Deputy Chief Minister S. Sukhbir Singh Badal to tell the people of Punjab what is the outcome of the previous Progressive Summit, Agriculture Summit and the NRI Summit. How much quantum of Financial investment has come to Punjab from these so called high end investments summits or they are just the platforms for the Badals to expand their existing businesses. The state government is offering “Mungeri Lal ke Sapne” tothe Corporate honchos while their own existing small scale industries and medium scale industries is on the verge of finish. Already the Industry in Batala, Mandi Gobindgarh, Jalandhar, Ludhiana, Mohali are the victims of the wrong industrial policies of the state government.
He said the investment summit has been held at the time when the state has virtually been on the boil for more than a month for which it is Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal who is directly responsible as he tried to manipulate the Sikh institutions for his political interest that backfired leading to the present anarchy. He said the present situation was the anti-thesis of congenial climate for industrial investment.

Mr Bajwa said the Badal government had so far failed miserably in protecting the traditional industry in the state that has been providing employment to lakhs of people, including self-employment in the small scale sector. This traditional industry has been dying in the absence of any incentive from the state government. He said for some unexplained reasons, it seemed that Mr Sukhbir Badal was interested more in seeking fresh investment rather than protecting the existing ones.

He said the basic problem was the clash of business interests of the ruling family in the state as Mr Sukhbir Badal himself was a business who has been tweaking all the government policies for the promotion of his own interests rather than creating congenial business environment in the state. Mr Bajwa said Punjab had the story of missed opportunities while other states had benefitted from foreign investment both in manufacturing as well as IT sectors. He said the biggest disincentive for the setting up of new projects was Mr Sukhbir Badal himself and the reasons were too well known to those who had interacted with him, despite this stage managed show.
