SUKHBIR TO ROLL OUT AUTOMATED DRIVING TEST CENTERS SCHEME ON APRIL 21

Chandigarh, April 18: With a view to provide better solutions for delivery of driving licenses to the public, the Punjab Government will rollout a novel scheme of having automated driving test centers would take off on the April 21, 2016.

Disclosing this, an official spokesman said the Deputy Chief Minister, Punjab, S. Sukhbir Singh Badal would kick start the scheme at Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Barnala and Faridkot to revolutionize the working of transport department. This scheme is the brainchild of Deputy Chief Minister so as to make the process of making driving licenses more transparent and help them not to fall into the trap of unscrupulous elements.

The spokesman further said that these state-of-the-art modern tracks have been constructed at 22 district headquarters and 10 sub-divisions at a cost of Rs. 40.27 crore. He also informed that Punjab is the first state in the country to have such automated driving test tracks where the whole process of making driving license would be completed at a single place. The applicants won’t have to make rounds of govt. offices and would be issued the license on the spot after their tests are conducted. Besides this, two automated driving test tracks for heavy motor vehicles at Gurdaspur and Malerkotla would also be established at a cost of Rs. 15.92 crore.

According to the spokesman, the applicants would have to submit their birth certificate, residence proof and photographs at the centre where facilities of depositing online fees and medical examination of the applicants. There would be different tracks for conducting tests of 2 wheelers and 4 wheelers. The tests would be conducted with the aid of biometric system, web casting camera and ultra modern electronic equipments. The results of the test would be prepared by the computer.

The spokesman further divulged that the transport department would also establish a driving training institute at cost of Rs. 22.74 crore with the help of Maruti Suzuki where 21 days training would be given with the help of modern gadgetry.
