* Congress slammed government of suicide attempt of old man over non disbursement of old age pension
Chandigarh, The Punjab Congress today slammed the state government holding it responsible for the suicide attempt of a 83 years old man of Dhilwan (Kapurthala) on Saturday because of non disbursement of Old Age Pension.
Taking strong note of suicide attempt by Somnath (83 years) for non release of Rs. 250 of old age pension for three months, the Congress has asked the Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal to do introspection over the issue.
Terming it is an indictor of misrule of SAD-BJP and rising frustration in Public, Dera Baba Nanak MLA Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa said that in the budget debate, Sukhbir Badal and CM PS Badal listed several social programme and said all pensions are being paid timely. “This incident of committing suicide has proved that Badals speak lie at floor of house. Either admit it that you lied in Assembly or act against officials, who didn’t disbursed the pensions”, he added.
In election manifesto, you (Sukhbir) had promised to enhance old age pension from Rs. 250 to Rs. 1000, but after coming into power instead of enhancing it, you not even paying it timely. The non-performance of government has frustrated the public so much that even people has started taking extreme steps like committing suicide.
Randhawa accused the SAD-BJP Government of politicizing the pension scheme for their own personal political benefits.
“I know you are power hungry and glued to chair, and won’t resign on moral ground. But I wish that you should do introspection because Punjab has not become California but turned into worst than of Bihar. And its high time you should admit that government has collapsed and take remedial measures as problems of drugs, rising debt, unemployment, failure of Law and order and declining income of Punjabis, can led to revival of terrorism ”, said Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, MLA Dera Baba Nanak to Sukhbir Badal.
He said that at this juncture when Punjab economy is almost failed, Punjabis does want a Metro Train of Airport, but they want the basic amenities, disbursement of old age, widow and handicap pension and benefits of Shaugan scheme.
