Chandigarh, Gurpreet Kaur, 38, who set herself on fire about 50 meters from the residence of Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today morning, had been trying to meet him for the last several days to seek job. She has received 40 per cent burns and is stated to be stable in the General Hospital.
She told media persons that she was fed up due to unemployment. She had done some computer course after plus two.
After the death of her parents, she had been staying in the Golden Temple complex for the last several years. Finally, she decided to meet Badal. She was trying for a meeting for the last 15 days but was not allowed by the security staff.
She sprinkled kerosene and set her on fire. Her lower legs and one arm have received burn injuries. She was saved by the security staff and brought to the hospital by the Chandigarh police around 9.20 AM.
Congress Legislature Party chief Sunil Jakhar and some other leaders visited the hospital to meet her.
Punjab policemen are also keeping a watch along with UT policemen in the hospital.
