Chandigarh, July 20 The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has taken serious notice of the threat issued by former Chief Minister and Amritsar MP Capt Amarinder Singh to the state officers that they should think twice before putting their signature on official documents at the behest of Akali leaders. The party told Capt Amarinder Singh that the officers of the state government are working directly under a constitutionally elected government and he has no business to threaten the bureaucracy. In a statement issued here today, Punjab Education Minister Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said that it was strange that the septuagenarian leader has failed to understand the pulse of the people of Punjab. He said that this was not the first time that he has tried to terrorise the officers from performing their bonafide duties. Dr Cheema said that before the 2012 Punjab Vidhan Sabha elections, he — in the same fashion — had urged banks against issuing loans to the state for developmental works. He said that Amarinder had gone a step further by asking the then Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh, who was heading the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre, to stop grants worth crores of rupees to the state as he feared that development would cause big political loss to him in the elections.
