Steve Jobs didn’t invent iPhone, but he did a good job in designing and putting it all together, federal research invented it, said Nancy Pelosi, the Minority leader of the US House of Representatives.
During the Democratic National Convention Platform Hearing, Pelosi held up an iPhone and asked the attendees, ‘Whether they have this (iPhone) smartphone?’
She pointed out that in the smartphone, almost everything came from federal investment and research.
‘The technology for the smartphone—including the GPS, created by the military, flatscreen, LLD, digital camera, wireless data compression, research into metal alloys for strength and lightweight, voice recognition. The list goes on and on.’She explained that ‘The Association for the Advancement of Sciences in America has the list, and they say Steve Jobs did a good designing it and putting it together’. ‘The Federal research invented it,’ she said.
She mistakenly referred American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) to Association for the Advancement of Sciences in America.
However, according to a report on CNET, a spokesperson for the AAAS, pointed out towards another organisation.
The spokesperson said, ‘Pelosi remarks were based on the on an infographic prepared by the Association of American Universities. Pelosi was mistaken in her reference to AAAS.’
