SPEAKER PUNJAB VIDHAN SABHA CHAIRS MEETING TO DISCUSS AFTEREFFECTS OF GAS LEAK TRAGEDY

CHANDIGARH, JUNE 24: A high level meeting was today held under the chairmanship of Dr. Charanjit Singh Atwal, Speaker, Punjab Vidhan Sabha to discuss the aftereffects of the horrific incident of ammonia gas leak tragedy at Doraha in which 6 innocent persons had died.

Disclosing this here today an official spokesperson of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha said that during the meeting serious concern was expressed about this gas leak tragedy and it was decided that a joint team of Irrigation Department, PWD (B & R), Drainage Department, National Highway Authority of india and district administration of Luhdiana would visit the accident site in Doraha on June 25 at 11 a.m. This team would investigate the reasons responsible for this terrible incident and eventually would submit report for the everlasting solution so that such kind of incident could be averted in future.

Dr. Atwal also brought the issue of waterlogging in Doraha into the notice concerned department. It was observed that the absence of proper system for the drainage of rain water was the reason behind this perennial problem of waterlogging. After deliberation upon this issue it was decided that Public Works Department keeping the ensuing Monsoon in mind would immediately make arreagement for the drainage of the rain water by putting pipes. It was also decided that Atlanta Tollways Company would complete the construction of drain by June 30, along the way of under construction Luhiana-Ropar 4 lane road so that rain water could be diverted to Patiala Feeder Canal.
