Ontario, Half of Ontario is under a special weather statement as a storm system from the west is expected to blanket the area in thick snow.
The national weather agency says snow is on the way, as an “Alberta clipper” storm system heads across Ontario.
All areas south and east of the Kapuskasing region, near James Bay, can expect to be hit by the storm.
The storm will bring snowfall to all areas that fall under the statement, but parts of the Ottawa Valley and Grey-Bruce region are expected to be hit the hardest. Those areas may see as much as 15 centimetres of snow by Thursday night. In the city, residents can expect between five and 10 centimetres to accumulate by Friday morning.
A cold front associated with the storm will bring brisk, gusty northwesterly winds, bringing in cold Arctic air starting Thursday evening. As the wind moves in, visibility may be reduced due to blowing snow.
Environment Canada warns that drivers should expect delays Thursday as a result of the storm. They should be wary of untreated roads, which are likely to become snow-covered and slippery.
The snow is likely to have a “considerable impact” on the afternoon and evening commute, the statement warns.
