Small plane makes emergency landing on Alberta highway

Calgary, Engine failure during a flight to British Columbia from the Calgary region forced an experienced pilot to bring his single-engine plane down on a highway in Alberta’s Kananaskis Country.
RCMP say officers were called Sunday afternoon after getting a mayday call from a pilot flying over the mountainous and heavily treed region in southwestern Alberta.
Soon after, they learned the engine had failed but the pilot had managed to land safely on Highway 40.

The pilot, who was the lone occupant of the plane, was not hurt and the aircraft was not damaged.
The plane was flying from the Springbank airport just west of Calgary to Sparwood in southeastern B.C.
