Sikh Federation announces it will take part in SAD’s Patiala rally

Chandigarh/October 02: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today received the wholehearted support of the Sikh Student Federation (Grewal) for its October 7 ‘Anti-Repression Rally’ at Patiala even as the SSF expressed full faith in the SAD’s leadership to lead the Sikh panth in its hour of crisis.

During a largely attended meeting with SAD president S. Sukhbir Badal at the party headquarters, Sikh Student Federation President and SGPC member Bhai Gurcharan Singh Grewal said the SAD had a 97 year old history of protecting the rights of the Sikh panth. “Since decades the SAD has been fighting against repressive governments by holding Morchas and agitations to safeguard the interests of Panth and Punjab” he added. He said the Federation will not only support the SAD in its anti-repression agitations, but also proactively take part in them.

Bhai Grewal said the SAD was the only party which had spearheaded awareness campaigns as well as agitations to safeguard the interests of Sikh community in India and abroad. “The Congress is an anti-sikh party which is known for hatching conspiracies to divide the Sikh community only to meet its petty political goals. This time also the Congress is trying to defame the SAD to pursue its anti sikh agenda”, he added.

The SSF leader also announced that the Federation would also come out with a programme to force the Congress government to honour the promises made to farmers, youth and dalits.

Speaking on the occasion, SAD president Sukhbir Badal thanked the SSF for the wholehearted support extended to the SAD keeping in view the interests of Punjab and Punjabiat and its steadfast resolved to protect communal peace and harmony. He said the SSF could play a big role in organizing youth for a more progressive and prosperous State. He asked the Federation to form its cells in colleges and Universities and take up problems being faced by students.

Others present on the occasion included former Minister Dr Daljit Cheema, Paramjit Singh Dharam singh Wala, Bhupinder Singh Bajrurh, Manpreet Singh Bunty, Gurjeet Singh Gaggi and Dilbagh Singh Virk.
