Shah targets Cong over ’84 remark

Amritsar

BJP president Amit Shah today said the holy city was fortunate to have a ‘readymade minister’ as contender for the Lok Sabha seat. He was in the city today to garner support for Union Urban Development Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

“I have visited at least 300 constituencies across the country. Wherever I went, people demanded that their Lok Sabha candidate should be included in the Union Ministry. Residents of Amritsar are lucky that we have fielded a readymade minister. I assure you if Puri is sent to Parliament, Amritsar will be the No.1 global city,” he said.

He said the Modi government had sanctioned around Rs 3,000 crore for development in various parts of the state. “At least Rs 1,800 crore was sanctioned for Amritsar from the Urban Development Ministry, but due to non-cooperative attitude of the Congress-led state government, these funds could not be utilised fully and the works got stuck in official rigmarole,” he said.

He blamed the Congress for not doing enough to keep Kartarpur Sahib in India during the Partition and its rule. “It was just 6 km away. Had it been done by the then Congress rulers during the Partition, Kartarpur Sahib would have been on this side of the border.”
