Chandigarh, While the Censor Board has cleared the controversial film Nanak Shah Fakir, the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak today raised its pitch against it demanding immediate ban.
The decision to demand ban was taken at its executive committee meeting presided over by its President Avtar Singh Makkar.
The SGPC justified the demand for ban arguing the portrayal of Guru Nanak and his immediate family members by living characters was violative of the Sikh code of conduct which was highly condemnable. He called upon the centre and the Censor Board to impose ban on this movie. It may be mentioned that no Sikh Guru or his immediately family members can be characterised in the films.
Earlier in the day, the Censor Board disclosed to a delegation of the Sikhs in Mumbai that the film had been issued certification for its release about ten days back.
The executive resolved that in future, the producer of the film must get prior clearance for the script from the SGPC for making a film relating to the Sikh religion. The Censor Board should also induct two representatives from the SGPC .
The Dal Khalsa and some other Sikh organisations have been demanding ban on thisfilm saying in case it was allowed to be released, it would have very far reaching repercussions.
The SGPC also opposed the nomination of Tara Singh as President of the Takht Hazoor Sahib management board maintaining only a person elected to the board should be appointed its president. Tara Singh is a BJP MLA in Maharashtra and his nomination has been done by the state government. The executive slammed it as a direct interference in the religious affairs of the Sikhs.
The meeting also took a strong note of the Sikhs being painted as secessionists and terrorists by some mischievous people in the social media and called upon the Indian and foreign governments to take strong action against such elements.
