Pathankot, September 30In a major setback to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ahead of the Gurdaspur by-elections, two of its senior leaders, Kulbhushan Singh, who contested the last assembly elections, and its General Secretary, Lakhvir Singh, joined the Congress, along with a large number of supporters, on Saturday in the presence of Chief Minister, Captain Amarinder Singh
Welcoming them into the party fold, the chief minister said that the joining of the AAP leaders and workers would further strengthen the Congress and ensure a landslide victory for PPCC president and party nominee, Sunil Jakhar.
Assuring the chief minister of their full support, the erstwhile AAP leaders said they had quit Arvind Kejriwal’s party, as it had failed to meet the aspirations of the people. They also accused the AAP’s national and state leadership of ignoring local leaders and workers.
While Kulbushan, an advocate, had contested the 2017 assembly polls on AAP ticket from Sujanpur, Lakhvir was the party’s co-ordinator for the Gurdaspur Lok Sabha polls.
