Self-immolation by woman symptomatic of failed Punjab: Manpreet

manpreet-singh-badalChandigarh, Expressing serious concern over the attempt by an unemployed women Gurpreet Kaur in front of official residence of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal to commit self-immolation, people’s party of Punjab chief Manpreet Singh Badal said it was indicative of the situation turning explosive in the wake of failure of the ruling party to provide succour to the people and implement poll promises.

“It is a shocking incident, perhaps the first of its kind when a frustrated person has tried to commit suicide in front of the residence of the Chief Minister by setting oneself ablaze. As per the reports, the women was desperately looking for a job. Mr. Badal needs to go through the Akali Dal manifesto in which a solemn commitment has been made to end the staggering unemployment in the state”, he said in a statement.

The PPP chief said all this while, the rulers had been making tall claims of attracting massive investment which could lead to employment generation. The government vacancies were not being filled up in the same proportion due to the empty coffers. The government backed out even on its promise to provide unemployment allowance.

He slammed Mr. Badal saying the state government had failed to come up the expectations of the people as nothing concrete had been done to mitigate the problems of the people. It was strange that Mr. Badal was going around holding his sangat darshan programmes but was unaware of the ground reality. Even these sangat darshan programmes seemed to be stage managed, he added.

He questioned Mr. Badal as to what strategy had been planned by the state government to reverse the crisis in which the Punjab had landed.
