Ludhiana, Punjab Deputy Chief Minister, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal today stated that selection of Ludhiana in smart city project is a matter of immense pride for state which has boosted image of Punjab as development oriented state and paved way for scaling further heights.
After meeting Deputy CM, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal at Chandigarh today, Ludhiana Mayor Mr Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria informed that the Deputy CM has sstressed that efforts now would be made to make other cities of state strong contenders for inclusion under said project.
He said that Deputy CM expressed hope that this would inculcate a sense of healthy competitiveness amongst cities bringing up gradation of infrastructure, Swachh Bharat and other issues related to public good into sharp focus.
In a meeting with a delegation of councillors from Ludhiana which called upon the Deputy CM at Chandigarh to express their gratitude, Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal said that credit for this exceptional achievement goes to District Administration, Citizen’s and various NGOs which presented a positive picture of this industrial hub of Punjab to merit inclusion in this prestigious project.
Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal said that Punjab Government has given a facelift to Ludhiana through various development for e.g. Improving sewerage system under HUDCO at a cost of Rs. 150 crore, Construction of roads alongside budha nala at a cost of Rs. 13 crore, Up gradation of sewerage treatment plants at a cost of Rs. 100 crore, Constructing 4832 dwelling units and operating 105 city buses.
It is pertinent to mention here that under this project, selected cities would get Rs. monetary assistance of 200 Crore each in first year while during course of next 3 years financial assistance of Rs. 100 per year would be given to each city for carrying out infrastructural and developmental projects and same amount would be contributed by state government.
On this occasion, Irrigation Minister, Punjab, Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Harcharan Singh Gohalwaria Mayor Ludhiana, Tanvir Singh Dhaliwal, Jagbir Singh Sokhi, Swaran Singh Maholi, Jaswinder Bhola, Bhupinder Singh Bhinda (All Councillors) , Inderjit Singh Gill Ex-Councillor and Youth Akali Dal leader Kuljinder Singh Dhanjal were also present.
