Sarah Thomson drops out of mayoral race to run for city council

Toronto, Mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson has dropped out of the race to run for city council in Trinity-Spadina.
Thomson, who also ran for mayor in the 2010 election, made the announcement at a press conference at city hall on Tuesday morning.
The Women’s Post publisher will face frontrunner Joe Cressy, who decided to run for a council spot in Ward 20 after losing a federal byelection in Trinity-Spadina in June.

Thomson’s campaign team said she has worked as a “community advocate” in Ward 20 for the last four years.
Last week, Thomson released a poll, asking residents of Toronto if she should end her mayoral campaign.
“Political insiders, motivated by the burning desire to unseat Rob Ford feared vote splitting and pushed to have the race narrowed to (one) challenger who would need liberal support to win,” a statement on her website read.
She asked voters to weigh in on whether she should drop out of the race for the mayor’s office to run for city council, where she said she would have a “better chance of bringing her ideas to city hall.”
