Sanju Samson Sends Strong Statement To Selectors, Scores Brilliant Century In Vijay Hazare Trophy

Left out of the Indian T20I team for the recently concluded series against Australia and the one coming up against South Africa, Sanju Samson sent a strong statement to the selectors in the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy as he continued his brilliant run of form with the bat.

Leading Kerala against the Railways in a vital clash taking place at Bengaluru’s Kini Sports Arena ground in Bengaluru on Tuesday (December 5), Samson played a stunning knock and hit a century as he kept his side alive in the chase after the team found itself in a difficult position at 59-4.

Earlier in the day, Kerela won the toss and chose to bowl first. However, the Railways put up a solid display with the bat and put up a big score of 259 on the board. Sahab Yuvraj Singh was the star of the show with an incredible ton that saw him make 121 runs in 136 balls.

Walking out to bat at number five with his team suffering a top-order collapse, Samson played a captain’s knock and reached his century in just 121 balls as he led his team in the tough runchase. The Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain stayed at the crease and was only dismissed on the second last ball of the inning after playing an incredible knock of 128 in 139 balls.

However, Samson’s innings went in vain as Kerala lost the game by 18 runs. However, the Samson-led outfit stays at the top of the group with five wins in seven matches.

So far in the tournament, Samson has 264 runs in seven matches at an average of 52.80, with one century and one half-century to his name.

Having been left out of the T20I side, Samson will make a comeback to the team for the ODI series, where KL Rahul will lead the team. Samson was dropped from the Asia Cup and World Cup squads despite an impressive record in the 50-over format for India with 390 runs in 13 games at an average of 55.71.
