SAHNEWAL RAIL OVER BRIDGE OPNED FOR VEHICULAR TRAFFIC TODAY

* IRRIGATION MINISTER SHARANJIT SINGH DHILLON INAUGURATED THE PROJECT

Sahnewal (Ludhiana), June 7: In a good news for the residents of Sahnewal town, the Rail Over Bridge (ROB) connecting Sahnewal with Kohara, was thrown open for vehicular traffic today. This ROB would connect NH 1 (Amritsar-Delhi Road) with NH 5 (Ludhiana-Chandigarh Road) and would bring respite to the area residents who suffered due to traffic congestion. Punjab Irrigation Minister Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon inaugurated this ROB in an impressive function held here today.

While providing information, Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon informed that this particular ROB at Sahnewal was a long pending demand of the residents of Sahnewal town. He said that the area residents had been demanding this ROB for more than 50 years, “But when they brought this matter to my notice, I took it up with the Punjab government and now the ROB has been constructed and thrown open for public,” Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said while speaking to media persons after the inauguration of this project.

Mr Dhillon said that this project was one of his poll promises. He said that when he became incharge of Sahnewal Constituency in the year 2010-11, he had assured the residents that this ROB would be reality one day. “This 678 meter long and 10.5 meter wide ROB has been constructed with a cost of Rs 24 crore,” informed Mr Dhillon, while adding that this ROB has been constructed in a period of 3 years.

In the absence of this particular ROB, the residents faced problems as the Amritsar-New Delhi railway line being one of the busiest rail links of the country. And the manual railway crossing led to traffic congestion in the area.

Area resident Avtar Singh said that the area residents can now heave a sigh of relief because there would no more traffic congestion in the area. He said that the residents of Sahnewal and its adjoining areas are thankful to Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon for the redressal of their long pending demand.

Mr Sharanjit Singh Dhillon said that the Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janta Party government is committed for overall development of all cities, towns and villages of the state. He said that it was only due to the development oriented policies of the Punjab government, that the SAD-BJP combine came into power for second consecutive time in 2012.

He further stated that work on another bridge at Mattewara is also going on in full swing and would be completed soon. Besides this, Jandiali village has also allotted land for the setting up of a Sewerage Treatment Plant and within one year, Sahnewal constituency would be amongst of the best in the state.

Prominent among those present on the occasion included Punjab Mandi Board chairman Mr Ajmer Singh Lakhowal, SAD (Rural) district Jathedar Santa Singh Umedpuri, Verka Milk Plant chairman Mr Ajmer Singh Bhagpur, Zila Parishad chairman Mr Bhag Singh Maangarh, Sant Jagjit Singh Lopon, Cooperative Sugar Mill Budhewal chairman Mr Harinder Singh Lakhowal, Sahnewal Municipal Council President Mr Kulwant Singh, Sahnewal Market Committee chairman Baba Jagroop Singh, Senior Youth Akali Dal leader Mr Simranjit Singh Dhillon, OSD to Irrigation Minister Mr Sehajpreet Singh Mangat, Chief Engineer PIDB Mr R K Garg, besides several others.
