SAD REJECTS RESOLUTIONS OF GATHERING AT CHABBA

SAD

Chandigarh November 10 – The Shiromani Akali Dal today rejected in entirety all the resolutions passed at a gathering of some persons at Chabba today.

“The gathering was called and managed at the behest of anti-Panthic elements who represent the traditional enemy of the Khalsa Panth, the congress.”

“The presence of several Congress leaders like Inderjeet SIngh Zira and many others and their workers in large numbers at the gathering gave their game away,” said senior Akali leaders Mr Ranjit Singh Brahampura, Mr Sukhdev SIngh Dhindsa, Mr Balwinder Singh Bhunder and Prof Prem Singh Chandumajra in a press statement released through the party office here .

These resolutions and the persons behind them “pose a threat to the hard earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony in the state,” said the Akali leaders.

“It is a repetition of the conspiracy plotted by the Congress which led to the tragedy of the Sikh masses for over 15 years. These resolutions are an attempt to vitiate the hard earned atmosphere of peace and communal harmony for which thousands of Punjabis had to lay down their lives. Peace remains the number one priority of Shiromani Akali Dal as of all Punjabis. The conspiracy to disrupt it deserves to be exposed, condemned and rejected in the strongest possible terms in the larger interests of the Sikh masses,” said the Akali leaders.

“The SAD also rejects the resolution which seeks to paint the Sikhs as an anti-national community. The Sikhs stand for a federal structure in the country with greater autonomy to the states, “said the Akali leaders.

“The Shiromani Akali Dal views with concern attempts being made to carry forward the age-old Congress agenda against the Sikh Panth and undo the hard won rights of the Sikhs to manage their own sacred Gurdwaras and run their religious affairs through the representatives elected by the Sikh masses to the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabhadak Committee. The Congress has been busy for many years to rediscover its lost relevance by causing dissensions within the Khalsa Panth. This will never be allowed to succeed by the Panth. The Sikhs will fight their conspiracy unitedly,” said the Akali leaders.

The SAD also out rightly rejected the right of any group of organisations to supersede the will of the Khalsa Panth as expressed through their elected body, the SGPC, to choose the Jathedars of the sacred Takhats of the Kahlsa Panth. The autocratic manner in which they have gone ahead in appointing the Jathedars of the supreme Takhats of the Khalsa Panth is against the age-old and accepted traditions and norms of the Khalsa . This is an indication of their supreme arrogance and their determination to take away from the hands of the Sikh masses the authority to do so ,” said senior Akali leaders in their statement.
“These resolutions completely undermine and destroy the legitimacy of the democratic will of the Sikh Sangat as expressed through institutions chosen and managed by their elected representatives. Every Sikh has a right to go to the Sikh masses to earn the right to manage their religious affairs but no one can arrogate to himself the right to do so through a mere self-chosen gathering,” said the Akali leaders.

The SAD leaders further said that the gathering tried to destroy with one stroke the results of countless and unparalleled sacrifices made by our ancestors in the peaceful democratic and Panthic struggle culminating in the Jaitu da Morcha, Saka Nanakana Sahib and Chaabia da Morcha.
“Our ancestors have shed their blood to win for the Sikh masses to run the affairs of the community through the representatives elected by the Sikh Sangat in a legitimate process of elections. The resolutions questioning the authority of the Akal Takhat Sahib and the SGPC is an attempt to push the community back into the era of Mahants ,” said the Akali leaders.
