Chandigarh October 1 – A meeting of the Core Committee of the Shiromani Akali Dal today reviewed the procurement scenario for the current paddy season in the state.
The meeting was presided over by the the SAD Chief Sardar Sukhbir Singh Badal and was attended among others by the party patron- in-chief and the Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Parkash Singh Badal.
Others who attended the meeting S. Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Jathedar Avtar Singh, Jathedar Tota Singh, S. Nirmal Singh Kahlon, S. Sewa Singh Sekhwan, Prof. Prem Singh Chandumajra, S Sucha Singh Langah, S. Balwant Singh Ramuwalia, Dr. Daljit Singh Cheema and Harcharn Singh Bains.
Giving details of the meeting the SAD General Secretary Mr Harcharan
Bains said here today that the meeting was called to get direct, ground-zero feed-back on different matters related to the procurement of paddy in the current season. The party president Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal asked members to maintain a constant vigil on different aspects and problems likely to arise in the way of smooth procurement of the crop and to keep both the party high ups and the Govt. fully apprised of all issues in detail for prompt and effective governmental response.
“We are determined to purchase and lift every grain of paddy from markets across the state. While the government machinery is fully geared up for the operation, the party on its will leave nothing to chance to ensure that farmers in the state do not encounter any problem in a hassle free disposal of their crop,” said Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal presiding over the meeting.
Mr Badal said that the Punjab Council of Ministers had already taken some vital policy decisions for effectively ruling any hiccups or last minute hurdles in the path of paddy being brought to the markets by the farmers and its procurement without any delay.
The Punjab Chief Minister Mr Parkash Singh Badal, who has been holding regular meetings of the concerned departments in this regard, told senior colleagues in the party that all arrangements for the operation have been put in place. The Government machinery has been put in top gear for smooth procurement and prompt lifting of the crop from various markets in the state.
He said that elaborate arrangements have been made for the paddy procurement during the Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2015-16. Five state procurement agencies viz. PUNGRAIN, MARKFED, PUNSUP, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation, Punjab, Punjab Agro Food Grains Corporation besides FCI would procure paddy on MSP as per the specifications laid down by the GoI. The state government has made elaborate arrangements for procuring 137 lakh MT Paddy during the ensuing Kharif season. As many as 1817 purchase centers have been notified by the state government for sale/ purchase of Paddy. Monitoring and Review of Procurement process was being closely done on regular basis by state Cabinet Ministers in their district and senior officers from head quarter.
He also informed that the Reserve Bank of India today sanctioned cash credit limit of Rs.18972 Crore for the ensuing procurement of the Paddy in Punjab.
Some other development-related issues including the implementation of different schemes for a massive uplift to the infrastructure in urban and rural areas of the state also came up for discussion. The Chief Minister the meeting that all cities and towns in the state will be provided complete sewerage, water supply and other civic amenities such as roads and street lights on the most modern pattern. All cities and towns in the state will be connected with four lane and six lane
ways. The rural areas in the state will also be provide similar facilities on urban pattern.
