SAD condemns dastardly attack on Sukhbir Badal, says it was orchestrated by Cong in league with State Police

Chandigarh, October 4 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today condemned the dastardly attack on the cavalcade of party president Sukhbir Singh Badal and said it was orchestrated by the Congress party in league with the State police to browbeat the SAD and was a blatant attempt to disrupt the party’s October 7 rally at Patiala.

In a statement here, former finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa, party general secretary Prakash Chand Garg and Sangrur district president Iqbal Singh Jhundan said the attack showed how desperate the Congress party had become to forestall the people’s movement built by the SAD which was now taking the Congress party to task and exposing its zero performance as well as zero fulfillment of all promises made to the people of Punjab.

Mr Parminder Dhindsa said the attack, which occurred after the SAD president had addressed a meeting in Sangrur, was planned and executed with the help of the State police. He said a handful of protesters standing beside the road were completely outnumbered by the police but the latter instead of stopping them led them on to attack on the SAD president’s cavalcade.

Mr Dhindsa said the attack was direct fallout of the success of SAD rallies at Abohar and Faridkot. “First the Congress announced it would not let the SAD enter villages. However when the party held successful rallies one after the other the Congress got unnerved and started hatching conspiracies against the SAD. It tried to disrupt the Faridkot rally recently. Now it has replicated the same strategy in Sangrur”.

Stating that the SAD would not be cowed down by such cowardly acts, the Akali leaders said the party would continue to work for peace and communal harmony. “Former chief minister Parkash Singh Badal and the SAD president have already announced that they are ready to make the highest sacrificed to safeguard the peace of Punjab. This attack has only made our commitment stronger. We are committed to fight for upholding the truth and exposing the lies and deceit of the Congress party. We appeal to the people of Punjab who believe in the principle of ‘sarbat da bhala’ and want to protect the hard won peace of Punjab to give a befitting response to the Congress party at Patiala on October 7”, the Akali leaders added.
