SAD asks Tarn Taran DC to deliver justice to army jawan Jaspal by August 16 or face agitation

8-SAD-TT-1

Tarn Taran, August 8 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today asked deputy commissioner Pardeep Sabharwal to deliver justice to army jawan Jaspal Singh whose land had been usurped at the instance of Congress legislator Ramanjit Sikki by August 16 or be ready to face agitation on this issue.

A SAD delegation led by mp Ranjit Singh Brahmpura and Bikram Singh Majithia which also included the victim Jaspal met the deputy commissioner and expressed shock that an army jawan who was guarding the nation’s frontiers was not getting justice at the hands of the district administration.

Telling the DC that all salutations made to army personnel and freedom fighters who had lid down their lives for the country on Independence day were useless in case their families did not get justice, Mr Brahmpura and Mr Majithia asked the officer to get a criminal case registered against those who had taken over the 16 canal land of the serving army jawan as well as ensure he was given possession of the same by August 16.

The army jawan – Jaspal who was also present on the occasion, narrated his tale of woe. He said he had been contesting a case regarding his land with another person for some time and that the case had been decided in his favour in 2016. “Following this we approached Ramanjit Sikki to ensure we were able to retain possession of our land without any problem. Sikki asked his personal assistant Jasminder to look into the case. But instead of doing anything positive Jasminder got a third party, other than the one we were in dispute with, to take forcible possession of the land on July 24. When my father asked for justice, he was threatened and told that he should worry about saving the lives of his sons. I was so demoralized that I wanted to commit suicide but when I came to know about the jabar virodhi lehar of the SAD I brought my case to the notice of SAD president Sukhbir Singh Badal”.

Asking the DC to examine the testimony of the army jawan as well as the land papers including registry and girdwari which were in his possession, Mr Majithia said it was the officer’s duty to take action in the case. “I know the entire administration is under pressure from Sikki who has earlier publically threatened police officers and directed them to work as per the dictates of Congress workers. However you as a DC have a responsibility towards army personnel doing active duty on the border. You should not let them down”.

Other leaders, including Gulzar Singh Ranike, Veer Singh Lopoke, Virsa Singh Valtoha and Ravinder Brahmpura also briefed the DC, and said there should be a check on Sikki and his supporters who should not be allowed to usurp land and property by resorting to goondaism. They said it was shameful that a sitting legislator had facilitated his supporters to forcibly take possession of a piece of land whose owner had come seeking his help.
