Chandigarh, March 6 – The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said former chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh may rave and rant but he could not change hard facts including the truth that Punjab’s GSDP (gross state domestic product) had increased substantially during the last nine years of SAD-BJP rule as compared to the previous Congress tenure.
Senior Akali leaders and MPs Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Balwinder Singh Bhundur today told Capt Amarinder – “the truth is the truth. Whether you like it or not. It has been put in public domain. The very fact that it shows you in poor light and exposes you should not provoke you to claim it is a lie”.
The senior akali leaders also ridiculed Amarinder for failing to point any factual error in the one hour long detailed presentation done by Deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal recently to tell the people about the achievements of nine years of SAD-BJP rule. “The very fact that you have failed to point out a single error and mouthed inanities proves that every single word and fact released by the Punjab government is true”, the leaders said.
SAD secretary general Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa said the response of Amarinder, which had been made in frustration, was not his fault. “Amarinder does not know that there is a difference between a chief minister (Parkash Singh Badal) who works for the welfare of the State and one (Capt Amarinder Singh) who moon walked through his stint in office without doing any work”.
Speaking about the few issues raised by Amarinder today in this regard, the akali leader asked Amarinder to explain how excise revenue from liquor had gone down during his term as chief minister. “Did you compromise State revenue and give benefit to a liquor cartel?” he asked.
The akali mps said the truth was that despite a boom in the economy during Amarinder’s rule, GSDP had not risen accordingly while during SAD-BJP rule the GSDP had gone up despite an economic slowdown. “Mr Amarinder Singh the truth is that the SAD-BJP government has made development a reality”, they said.
Refuting Amarinder’s claims of industries shifting out of Punjab, the akali mps said the opposite was true. They said during Amarinder’s period in office there were 3909 registered units till 2007 which rose to 9517 during 2007 to 2012 and increased to 10,144 presently. “These are the facts. Refute them if you can”, the leaders added.
The akali mps also dared Amarinder to showcase a single achievement of his five year tenure so that the people could judge him themselves. “If you cannot debate development it proves you are a sore loser who is frustrated at being beaten before the race for the 2017 assembly election has even started”, the leaders added.
