Chandigarh: The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) today said the façade of austerity, probity and morality in public life which was professed by Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) had been torn asunder by the greed and hunger for money shown by AAP national executive member Yamini Gomar while contesting the last parliamentary elections.
In a statement here, SAD general secretary Dr Daljit Singh Cheema said instead of delivering sermons to others, AAP and its Convenor Arvind Kejriwal should spell out what action was being taken against Yamini Gomar for submitting fake bills for expenditure incurred by her during the parliamentary polls.
Dr Cheema said it had now been proved that Ms Gomar submitted false bills for expenditure incurred in printing of election material while contesting the election from Hoshiarpur constituency in 2014. While asking AAP to take strict action from Ms Gomar, the SAD leader said an independent investigation should be launched by the enforcement agencies into the funds collected by the AAP leader during this period. “It appears money has been collected from gullible Punjabis and the same has not been accounted for by Ms Gomar”, he added.
The akali leader said AAP could not even contest the uncovering of the scam against Yamini Gomar because the same had been brought to the notice of the party by an AAP worker. “We demand that the conscientious activist who brought this scam into public should be given security due to all whistle blowers so that all dimensions of this scam could be brought to the notice of Punjabis. “It is also now important to examine the expenditure accounts of other AAP candidates to find out if there is a similar pattern and whether all of them also submitted fake bills”, he added.
Stating that scams were becoming the order of the day in AAP, Dr Grewal said Delhi CM and AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal had to sack food minister Asim Ahmed Khan on corruption charges. Law minister Jitender Tomar was arrested for faking his college degree and another law minister Somnath Bhartiwas sent to jail in a domestic violence case. Besides this he said AAP MLA Som Dutt was facing probe for submitting a false affidavit and MLA Manoj Kumar was arrested in a case of cheating and land grabbing.
