Rio de Janeiro: Carolina Marin made a strong comeback in the final after she clinched the second game with ease against PV Sindhu in Rio de Janeiro on Friday. The Spniard, who let the three-point lead slip in the first game, did not repeat the mistake as she bagged the second game 21-12.
Marin’s power, smashes and deft touches were on display as she levelled the score 1-1.
Sindhu showed remarkable fighting spirit to seal the first game as Marin, who controlled the major part of the first game, failed to capitalise after leading Sindhu 19-16.
The Indian was all class and grit as she won five points in a row to clinch the first game 21-16.
Sindhu and Marin made unforced errors but Marin’s smashes were doing wonders for her as she continued to lead the first game against the Indian in the Rio Olympics final. While there were some uncharacteristic mistakes from both the finalist, Marin made Sindhu run across the court.
However, the Indian held her nerve as she made a late comeback in the first game to take the one-game lead.
