Records of villages to be online soon : Maluka

Chandigarh, Digital maps of villages and land record would be uploaded on website of Rural Development and Panchayat Department soon with a view to all round development of all 13,030 villages in the state. This was disclosed by Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka, Minister for Rural Development and Panchayat Department, Punjab here today while presiding over a high level review meeting of the department.

Mr. Maluka said that earlier people used to get harassed in different offices for getting information of their villages; therefore department has taken initiative to prepare online record of all villages. He added that now anyone could get whole information about their wards with just click of a button as whole information would be available on department’s website.

The Minister also said that to streamline the functioning of the department and to ensure transparency the officers have been directed to generate complete awareness amongst the villagers about various schemes launched for them. He has also assured that the villages would be converted into model villages equipped with all the latest amenities. He reiterated the strong resolve of the government to strengthen the street structure of the villages and ensure complete LED lighting facilities in the villages. Safe drinking water and 100 percent sewerage system would also be provided in the villages. Mr. Maluka further said that the complete facelift of the villages was possible only if the officers work conscientiously and honestly for the welfare of the rural people.

The Minister further said that e-auction has been introduced in the shamlat land of the villages so that maximum finance could be collected to the state exchequer. The money collected would be spent on the ongoing development projects in the villages and at the same time the village panchayats would be financially independent. Directing the officers, he said that there should be complete coordination between Panchayat secretaries and the Revenue department so that the illegal occupation on the shamlat land could be checked and action could be taken accordingly.

To check the corrupt practices in the distribution of the development funds to the panchayats, the minister said that the state government has already introduced online system of money transactions. He has also sought the suggestions from the officers at all levels to further improve the functioning of the department.

Prominent among others who were present in the meeting included Fianancial Commissioner Rural Development Mr. A Venu Parshad, Director C Sibbin, Mr. G.S. Ghuman from SIRD, Joint Director Mr. JP Singla and Deputy Director Mr. Shivdev Singh Dandiwal.
