Rawat new press club president, clean sweep

Chandigarh: Rawat group swept Chandigarh Press Club winning all seats. Barinder Rawat is new President, Jaswant Rana secretary general, Saurabh Duggal senior vice president, Neha Sharma and Rajinder Nagarkoti vice president, Sanjay Malhotra secretary, Umesh Sharma and Karnail Rana joint secretary, Ramesh Handa treasurer. Rawat was today elected the new President of the Chandigarh Press Club by defeating Pradeep Sharma with a margin

of 65 votes.

Elections to the nine posts of the governing council were held in

which 609 voters out of the 711 cast their votes, Returning Officer Vishal Gulati said.

He said Saurabh Duggal retained the post of senior vice president by defeating Sukhbir Singh Bajwa by 85 votes. For the post of Secretary General, Jaswant Singh Rana defeated Nalin Acharya with a margin of 94 votes. Mr. Umesh Sharma as secretary and Karnail Singh Rana were elected Joint Secretaries. For the post of secretary, Sanjay Malhotra retained the post by defeating Anil Bhardwaj by 69 votes. Ms. Neha Sharma defeated Ms. Archana Sethi for the women reserved seat (vice president – I) by a margin of 52 votes. For vice president II, Mr. Rajinder Nagarkoti won the seat by defeating Amit Bhardwaj by 131 votes, the highest vote margin. For treasurer, Mr. Ramesh Handa retrained the seat by defeating Mr.

Ashwani Kumar with a margin of 86 votes. Returning Officer Vishal Gulati thanked the voters for peaceful polling. The election to the Press Club, established in 1980, is held annually and has been conducting since 1984 without a miss.
