Chandigarh, The Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee virtually provided to the once controversial Rashtriya Sikh Sangat, one of the front organisations of the Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh, by attending the kirtan programme organised on the occasion of the meeting of the newly constituted executive committee of the organisation at its new headquarters at New Delhi. A kirtan programme to celebrate Guru Nanak Parkash Utsav was also organised on the occasion.
It may be mentioned that the activities of this organisation had generated a lot of controversy in Punjab when this body intensified its activities in 2000 and non-Akali Sikh organisations joined hands to launch vociferous protests forcing it to withdraw. Years later, its Punjab chief Rulda Singh was gunned down in Patiala.
According to a press release by the RSS, DSGMC General Secretary Manjinder Singh Sirsa, its Vice-president Tanvant Singh, member Gurlad Singh attended the programme besides a number of RSS and BJP leaders from Punjab, Haryana and Delhi.
Addressing the gathering, RSS General Secretary Bhayyaji Joshi said they were following the teachings of Guru Nanak who preached universal brotherhood and welfare of all. He said Guru Nanak Dev strongly opposed the despotic Mughal rulers. At the time when india was engulfed in darkness and the country was subject to extreme cruelty, Guru Nanak started a new movement and following the same path, Tenth Lord Guru Gobind Singh ended this tyranny rule.
Gurcharan Singh Gill is the President and Avtar Singh Shashtri the General Secretary of the Sikh Sangat.
