It seems biopics are the flavour of the season in Bollywood. Sports biopic like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag and Mary Kom have been very successfull and biopics of MS Dhoni and Dhyan Chand are being made. But now it is turn for a biopic of a controversial figure.
Director Apoorva Lakhia is all set to make a film on the life of Haseena Parkar, Dawood Ibrahim’s younger sister and aide. If reports are anything to go by, then filmmaker Apoorva Lakhia is working on the subject, and has decided to cast actress Rani Mukerji for the lead role.
Rani, who gave a powerful performance as Shivani Shivaji Rao in Mardaani, has reportedly shown interest in the project and is even considering the idea of putting on weight to ensure she resembles Haseena.
The film has been tentatively titled Haseena.
Haseena Parkar’s husband was gunned down in 1991. Avenging his brother-in-law’s death, Dawood shot down the murders in the infamous J.J. Hospital shootout. Post the incident, Haseena moved to Nagpada where she was considered the ‘godmother’. She passed away in a Dongri hospital on July 4, this year.
