RANA GURJEET TELLS CHEEMA NOT BE MORE LOYAL THAN THE KING

ranaCHANDIGARH, July 19: Defending former Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh’s caution to the officers against putting another debt-burden on debt ridden Punjab, senior Congress leader and Kapurthala MLA Rana Gurjeet Singh today advised the Education Minister and Akali Dal spokesperson Dr Daljeet Cheema not to be more loyal than the king and rationally understand what he (Capt Amarinder) had said. Reacting to Dr Cheema’s statement criticising Capt Amarinder for his caution, Rana said, no well wisher of Punjab can ever think of putting another burden of Rs 10,000 crores debt on Punjab which is already reeling under a humungous debt of Rs 1,25,000 crores. “The Akali intentions are clear”, Rana remarked, while adding, “they know that they are not coming back to power so are wantonly trying to borrow money and pass on the liability to the next government”. He said, this was extreme of irresponsibility on part of Akalis and Congress will not let them do that. The Congress leader said, Capt Amarinder has every right to sound caution and he has done the right thing by advising officers not to let Akalis push Punjab further into the vicious debt trap. “Because eventually it will be Capt Amarinder as the Chief Minister of Punjab who will have to redeem and reconstruct the financial situation of the state”, he observed, while suggesting Dr Cheema that instead of criticising Capt Amarinder he should advise his leadership to act and behave with responsibility.
