Lucknow, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh Sunday said Centre cannot make any law by bringing in a bill in Parliament for construction of Ram temple in Ayodhya as BJP and its NDA allies put together do not have majority in the Rajya Sabha.
“BJP does not have a majority in Rajya Sabha, so this time it is not possible to bring a motion in the Parliament to make law for the construction of Ram temple,” the senior BJP leader said in Ayodhya.
The reply came when media persons asked Rajnath about the the promise that the BJP had made ahead of the Lok Sabha polls last year that it will make a law for building a grand Ram temple by moving a legislation in Parliament after coming to power in the Centre with absolute majority.
Asked if his party will bring the motion for a Ram temple if it gets a majority in Rajya Sabha in the days to come, Rajnath said he will not reply to “imaginary questions”.
The ruling party has 45 members in the Upper House and it is unlikely that it will have the numbers during its current tenure. In the House of 243 members, Opposition has at least 132 MPs.
Responding to other queries on the same issue, Rajnath said that the High Court has given its judgment on Ram temple and people should wait for the judgment of the Supreme Court.
Rajnath was in Ayodhya to attend foundation stone laying ceremony of an OPD and doctors’ residence of Deenbandhu Eye Hospital that is run by a trust headed by Nritya Gopal Das, head of Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas. After offering prayers at Ram Janmabhoomi and Hanumangarhi, Rajnath also met Mahant Gyan Das, the head priest of Hanumangarhi.
Reacting to a question on controversy over whereabouts of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, Rajnath said he will speak some thing on him in the Parliament that is in session.
Rajnath also said that the UP government has adequate funds for giving financial assistance to the farmers, who suffered loss of crop in unseasonal rains.
