Congress leader Rahul Gandhi has come out in support of a man in Uttar Pradesh, who tried to commit suicide during Facebook live. Residents of Uttar Pradesh’s Baghpat district, Rajiv Tomar and his wife Poonam swallowed poison during a Facebook live.
The two were rushed to a hospital, where Poonam died, and Rajiv was admitted in ICU in a serious condition.
According to relatives, the couple was suffering from financial strain as Rajiv’s shop was not doing well. Rajiv has a shoe shop in Baraut.
“The video of Rajiv Tomar ji and his wife of Baghpat has shown the painful truth of the helplessness of small traders. Wishing Tomar ji good health and my condolences on the sad demise of his wife. We will not give up in the face of injustice. You are not alone in this fight – I am with you,” Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.
On Tuesday, Rajiv and Poonam came on Facebook live and shared their financial problems. Suddenly the couple swallowed poison. A relative, who lived nearby, rushed the two to a hospital. The wife died during treatment while the husband was admitted in ICU in a serious condition.
As soon as the news of Poonam’s death reached relatives, they created chaos in the hospital. Workers of some political parties also reached the hospital and staged a protest.
The police had to rush to spot and disperse protesters. The cops took over Poonam’s body and sent it for postmortem.
