Quality education should be foremost priority-Sukhbir Badal

Dera Bassi (SAS Nagar), Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today exhorted educational institutions to provide quality education to translate nation’s dream of becoming ‘superpower’ into reality in coming years.

Addressing the students of LM Thapar School of Management campus of Thapar University after its inauguration here, Mr. Badal said quality education with a sense of responsibility was need of the hour. He urged that all educational institutes should serve the nation by imparting quality education bringing massive transformation in educational sector. The Deputy CM also gave a call to purge away the ‘quantity’education from academic system to tap great talent amongst Indian students.

Expressing his thoughts Mr. Badal said that eco-system for education should be created and it was sole mission of Punjab Government to establish this productivity system inNew Chandigarh. He said Punjab was creating Educity and Medicity in New Chandigarhwhere Airtel and Mahindra & Mahindra are coming with world class professional educational institutes while Fortis, Vedanta and Apollo would setup their medical educational ventures in Medi-City. Adding he said Punjab was also setting up world class infrastructure in education and other sectors to facilitate the incoming industrialhouses besides enabling our students to compete at global level.

Describing IT as spine of current tech era, Deputy CM said Punjab is going to launch the concept of ‘Sewa Kenders’ throughout the state to provide 249 citizen centric services at village level. He said State government is providing more than 160 citizen services through suwidha centers which would be extended to 249 by the end of 2015 by establishing more than 2600 Sewa Kenders in the state.

Mr Badal said that Punjab was also taking phenomenal stride to build basic infrastructure including sufficient power generation, 4/6 lane road network, air connectivity etc. “Our state has become power surplus and now by the end of next year we would have complete world class road network. SAS Nagar and Bathinda airports are ready to become operational, which would further give impetus to state’s growth” he added.

Extending congratulations to Thapar University President and Chairman Avantha Group Mr. Gautam Thapar, his team and his vision, Mr. Badal expressed confidence that this business school would meet the requisite aspirations of tech graduates vis-a-vis qualityeducation as this group is well known for delivering quality products.

Lauding the resolve of Deputy CM to make Punjab No. 1 state, Mr. Gautam Thapar said the time has come to put Punjab ahead of other states. Appreciating the vision of Mr Badal to enlist Punjab in the leading states, he said their focus was to produce business professional for all round development of state by giving appropriate solutions to emerging business and industrial issues.

On the occasion among others Mr N.K. Sharma Chief Parliamentary Secretary and Dr Patrick Prendergast, Provost and President, Trinity College Dublin, with which Thapar University has signed an agreement to promote academic collaboration in the key areas of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, research and faculty development was also present. Director Dr Padmakumar Nair, Director Prof Prakash Gopalan, LM Thapar School of Management and other delegates of the university accorded a warm welcome to the Deputy Chief Minister.
