Punjab villages to witness complete facelift in next 5 years – Sukhbir Badal

17-MKT-01* State to sign MOU with companies to provide cement on control rates

Chandigarh/Sham Khera (Sri Mukatsar Sahib), Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr. Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced that all villages will witness complete facelift in next 5 years as CC flouring to be laid in the streets.

This was stated by Deputy Chief Minister today while visiting village Sham Khera in Sri Mukatsar Sahib district where all streets having 4 km length were constructed with CC flouring at a cost of Rs. 16.61 crore besides 100 % drinking water facilities costing Rs. 26.62 crore. Mr. Badal said that it would be second biggest project being initiated by the SAD-BJP Government after making the Punjab a power surplus state across the nation. It is mentioned here that earlier Ratta Khera and Mandi Kilianwali villages in this district have CC flooring in the streets.

Deputy CM said CC flooring project would be implemented in a phased manner by the Rural Development and Panchayats Department by kicking off in another 35 villages of Lambi constituency as ordinary bricks streets were not durable due to water logging in these areas.

Terming it a dream project Mr. Badal asked the Rural Development and Panchayats Department officials to come up with a detailed proposal within a month, besides exploring the possibilities to engage village panchayats in this noble cause.

Mr. Badal also said that Punjab Government would sign memorandum of understanding (MOU) with cement companies to provide cement on control rates for public works especially CC flouring and construction of water works to reduce the project costs. Mr. Badal has also said that cement bags available at control rate would have different colour to check sale of control rate cement in open market.

Talking about the world Kabbadi cup final, he said that village Badal has fully geared up for this mega event and all preparations have already been made. He said that to provide sports facilities and give a push to sports activities in semi urban areas and villages, state government has decided to organize world kabbadi cup matches mostly small towns.
