Punjab to use eco-friendly aerobic and aenarobic technique to rejuvenate 1829 ponds

Chandigarh, The Punjab Government has identified eco-friendly Aerobic and Anaerobic Technique to rejuvenate 1829 ponds in 1333 Gram Panchayats.

 

Disclosing this here today Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka, Rural Development and Panchayats Minister said that a pilot project was initiated in some of the village of Ludhiana district for the cleaning of ponds by using water stabilizations technology successfully. He said that the government had approved similar technique for the cleaning of Rivers in the state. Mr. Maluka said that under this eco-friendly technique the ponds is divided in to four sections of Aerobic and Anaerobic process and after cleaning the pond, the pond water was utilized for irrigation purpose. Giving the details of the project the Minister said that under this technique it is ensured that the entire waste water of the village that comes in to the pond was treated cent-percent and to be utilized by the villagers for irrigation their crops. The excess water if left was diverted to the Chaos, Nullas through underground pipes.

 

The Minister said that under this prestigious programme, the state government would spend about 100 crore over the cleaning of village ponds covering the total area of 134.86 acres of land. It may be recalled here that according to a survey conducted by Rural Development & Panchayats department, there are 17255 total ponds in the state that covered approximately 24405 acres land.

Mr Maluka said under this programme all the village ponds would not only be rejuvenated but also developed as a green site through planting, trees around these ponds besides creating a pollution free environment to ensure a healthy and pleasing surroundings for the villagers, where they could also visit for their morning walk.
