Punjab to spend Rs.20 crore to construct toilets in rural areas : Maluka

Chandigarh,  The Punjab Government would spend Rs. 20 crore to construct 17391 toilets free of cost in rural areas for the families living under below poverty line.

Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Sikander Singh Maluka said that he has already given his nod to a proposal to provide sanitation facilities to the rural habitation in the state.

The Minister further said that Rs. 94.50 crore has already been spent by the Punjab Government to construct 80689 toilets in villages. He said that the Department has set an ambitious target to provide 17391 toilets to all families under BPL by the next financial year and the department has sought the reports from all BDPOs about the actual construction under taken in the villages to construct toilets in the areas fall under their jurisdiction to Director Rural Development by the every 7th of the month.

The Minister also said that approximately Rs 17, 500 would be spent on each lavatory. All the records including the pictures of the completed lavatory kept in office record, he added. The Minster has also directed all BDPOs to ensure quality construction under their personal supervision.
