Second installment will be paid by September- Sukhbir Badal
Chandigarh August 19 – The state government has released Rs 90 crore towards payment to sugarcane growers of state cooperative sugar mills.
Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Mr Sukhbir Singh Badal and Revenue Minister Mr. Bikram Singh Majithia after listening to the delegation from Hoshiarpur and SBS Nagar at his residence here today has asked the finance department to immediately release RS 90 crore and announced that remaining amount of Rs 90 crore would be paid to the growers in next month. He assured that that interests of sugarcane farmers and sugar mills would be protected and Punjab be the only state in the country having no pendency of sugarcane farmers after September.
A spokesman of SUGARFED said that at present total arrears of all 9 cooperative sugar mills towards about 28,000 cane growers was Rs 180 crore. He confirmed that SUGARFED had received the money (Rs. 90 crore) and same would be transferred into the accounts of farmers in two days. He also informed that state government had earlier paid payments of cooperative mills to the tune of Rs. 150 crore to the sugarcane farmers.
Prominent among others present in the meeting included Jails and Tourism Minister Sohan Singh Thandal, Bibi Mohinder kaur Josh and Ch Nand Lal (both CPS), Principal Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister Mr. P S Aujla, Special Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Mr. Gagandeep Singh Brar, Mr. Ajay Kumar Mahajan and Mr. Rahul Tewari (both Special Principal Secretary to Deputy Chief Minister) Chairman Markfed Jarnail Singh Wahad, Arvinder Singh Rasoolpur and Lakhwinder Singh Lakhi.
