CHANDIGARH, JULY 3:The Punjab Government is all set to launch Rs 2200 Crore, the biggest ever sanitation programme in the State, to ensure toilets in each village and to rejuvenate water supply and sewerage network there.
Mr. Surjit Singh Rakhra who has been given final touches to this programme informed that he has set aside Rs. 1000 crore for construction of toilets and Rs. 1200 crore for rejuvenating water Supply and Sewerage network and more that 13000 villages of the state.
Elaborating the vision of Punjab Chief Mr. Parkash Singh Badal, Mr. Rakhra said that it was his idea to take sanitation programme of all villages in one go and Rural Development & water supply and sewerage department were working in tandem to ensure completion of this ambitious programme by December 2016.
Reiterating the commitment of Punjab Government in ensuring total quality control in execution of this mammoth project Mr. Rakhra said that it is for the first time that total technical staff of both department including cutting edge staff including SDOs and JEs have been called at PAU Ludhiana for five day intensive training. He said that this training would ensure universalisation of quality standards across all the villages and ensuring the success of this project with the missionary zeal.
Thanking Mr. Badal and Deputy Chief Minister for getting funds of this project sanctioned personally. Mr.Rakhra said that both departments would work day & night to realise their vision of making Punjab villages most progressive villages in the country. He said that Punjab is all set to become first open defecation free state of the country with the completion of the project.
