Patiala, BJP has issued a stern warning to the police officers and officials in Punjab saying that the cops should refrain from issuing threats to BJP candidates and workers and not make an attempt to intimidate the party workers.
Tarun Chugh, the national secretary of BJP, who was today told at Sanaur in Patiala that some police officers were calling them up in threatening manner and they feared that anything could happen on the day of Municipal Council polling, assured party candidates and workers that the party won’t allow any such thing to happen and their democratic rights and personal safety would be fully protected.
Addressing party candidates and workers here, Chugh said that BJP was a national party which has its dominant presence from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. He said that the BJP candidates and workers need not fear anything as their party was committed to maintain law and order and uphold democratic values across the country.
Mincing no words, Chugh, categorically said that any police officer or official trying to threaten or intimidate BJP candidates or workers would not be spared. He said that the party was in the process of drawing out a list of such officers and officials and this list would be sent directly to the offices of Prime Minister and the Home Minister.
He said that in fact, such officers, were harming the interests of the alliance and trying to weaken it with their activities, just for their vested interest.
Chugh said that the party was contesting MC polls along with their alliance partner Akali Dal at more than 100 places and the two parties are contesting separately only at three places namely Sanaur, Tarn Taran and Batala.
The BJP leader said that the BJP believes in democracy and not ‘Dango-Cracy’ and ‘Dhaka-Cracy” but was capable of protecting the interests and safety of all the BJP candidates, irrespective of the fact whether they were contesting polls in alliance with the Akali Dal or otherwise.
