Rajpura (Patiala), In a surprise check Health and Family Welfare Minister Punjab Mr. Surjeet Kumar Jayani visited Civil Hospital Rajpura and examined minutely the functioning of the hospital. He remained there for about three hours and checked the attendance registers and other documents of different wards.
Talking to the media after the surprise check, Mr. Jayani said that he had especially visited the civil hospital after getting information about the hospital authorities forcing the patients to get the medicines from outside the hospital premises. The minister has also asked the doctors to shun this habit of fleecing the poor patients. He said that the government was well aware of the modus operandi of a few doctors who were exploiting the patients. Such doctors would be dealt with strongly and strict administrative and legal action would be taken against the erring doctors. He however said that the stamp of the doctor was mandatory on the medical slip given to the patient.
The Minister also said that with a view to providing the X-ray, ultrasound and other diagnostic test reports within a short time span, well equipped ultra modern Diagnostic Centres would be established at the district and tehsil levels shortly. These Centres would be managed by the private firms which would charge nominal fee from the patients.
He has categorically asked the doctors who were posted in the schools to ensure good heath of the children, to visit the schools well in time and undergo all the required tests recommended for the children to ensure complete health cover to them and he has asked these doctors to mark themselves present in their respective stations of posting then visit the schools. Reiterating further, Mr. Jayani said that the state government was committed to provide good and quality health and medical services to the patients. He has also asked the doctors to ensure the availability of all the generic medicines in the hospital medicine shops only.
During the surprise checks the minister also visited different wards and met the patients and their attendants to have firsthand information about the functioning of the hospitals from them. ….
