Ferozepur, February 28, 2023: The Punjab government has refused to renew the licence of Malbros Liquor Factory, Zira.
Earlier, the Chief Minister has through a tweet message conveyed to close down the factory, where the farmers of Mansurwal and 40 adjoining villages are sitting dharna since July 24 last, but official notification has not so far been released. On the other hand, the farmers of the area, though in small numbers are still sitting on dharna, in front of the factory, waiting for the issuance of formal notification.
As per information, the Punjab government has filed an affidavit in the court today on the hearing date, for not renewing the license of the factory, for its further operation, in view of the decision to close down the factory, to save from polluting the underground water and environment of the area, as per recommendations of the Punjab Pollution Control Board.
The factory owners said highly inflammable was still lying in the factory. In case of any mishap, there could a huge damage, therefore, it was required to be taken out at the earliest.
Notably, after examination, government officials had also agreed that there was inflammable material stored in the factory and proper safety arrangement was required.
However, an appeal was made to the court for permitting to allow to lift the heavy quantity of deadly liquid ethanol lying inside the factory, to avoid any untoward incident. Added here, the Punjab government has also deposited Rs.20 cr as fine amount on account of loss to the factory.
