* Leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar advised Deputy CM to start work on the pending projects of Urban Development, which was sanctioned by UPA Government
Chandigarh, August 25, 2015: Though the Union Ministry of Urban development has announced to release pending funds under the Jawahar Lal Nehru Renewable Urban Mission (JNRUM) but Punjab Government has failed to bring pending of Rs 1200 crore under the JNRUM, which was sanctioned by the Congress led UPA Government, the Congress leader of opposition in the state Assembly Sunil Jakhar while expressing these views lambasted on the ruling SAD-BJP Government.
Sunil Jakhar said that Minister of Urban Development Venkaiah Naidu has announced the pending grants but the ruling state Government of SAD-BJP could not bring these pending funds due to the political tussle with ally party BJP in the state.
He also expressed his concern over the poor sanitation and solid waste management system in the cities. He said that all important cities of Punjab have also failed in the ranking of clean cities at National level, which also reflects the poor urban development. He said that pictures of these cities also show that these cities have been converted in to the garbage dump.
Targeting on the political tussle between SAD-BJP in the state, leader of Opposition Sunil Jakhar said that their party MLAs in Amritsar has been sitting on the protest against the state Government, who has been demanding sufficient funds for the development of their constituencies. He said that protest by their own MLAs draw real picture of the functioning of the state Government.
He also mentioned about his Abohar constituency that with the intervention of Punjab and Haryana High Court, he managed to get grant of Rs 72Crore for his constituency under JNRUM. Due to this, Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal had also demanded Rs 1200 Crore from the central government and also started laying foundation stones of various development projects.
He said that instead of waiting for the new policies of Central Government, the state Government must utilize the pending grants, which was sanctioned by the central Government JNRUM.
